塩江中学校入学式 – Shionoe Middle School Entrance Ceremony

The Japanese love their school ceremonies, and this was on different.  This was basically like a graduation ceremony, but in reverse, and there were no tears to be had.  All the same big wigs were there in their suits to welcome the new class.  Songs were sang, parents were there in suits and kimonos.  As you would guess, it’s basically to formally admit all of the new students into the school, introduce the teachers, and also to officially start the school year.  It had all the normal elements of Japanese culture present, the bowing, and manner to the the speeches and such.  I still have a hard time understanding how so many people can be bothered to participate in these sorts of activities, but I guess its just another thing for a mother to care about.

Here are a few snippits from the ceremony.  Procession, Reading of Names, Acknowledgement of the Guests, and a Stanza of the School Song.
