ボウリング – Bowling

I was invited to do some bowling with a few people.  Being a weeknight, I was hesitant at first, since it was about a 30 minute drive, we were starting at 9:00, and I had work the next day.  In the end, I got there and there were a few more people as well.  In all, there was a guy I know from Ireland, Ryan, one of Ryan’s teachers as well as the teacher’s two brothers.  There was some early trouble with getting in, but we eventually got our lane and were bowling at about 10:30ish.  I was only expecting two games, since that basically my standard, but in going with the flow it turned into 4.  This was no real problem, since it was fun and I wasn’t playing miserably.

We changed teams each round and the lesser team’s sum was obligated to buy drinks for the other team.  Since a few of us were limited by needing to drive, we kept it dry, though there were a few side bets going on.  Aside from the warm up round, I only lost one, though  my games weren’t very Communist (Marx).  I was in the middle of the pack, though two of the Japanese people with us were amazing.  They had great technique that never failed to make us look bad.  I was also really enjoying people in the adjacent lane, since they were really good, and their follow through generally included taking a few steps down the line.

Ryan and Jasper

While I was there, I was wearing my ridiculous  Cosby sweater which was getting a fair bit of attention.  Whenever I noticed someone pulling out their cameras, I would give them a pose which was generally amusing.

As we were leaving the place, we saw an arcade game that was bordering on crazy.  Basically you put on boxing glove and punch something as hard as you can.  The sum of three punches is totaled, and if high enough destroys your foes, varying from bank robber to Kraken, to meteor.  We all played, drawing quite a crowd of Japanese people, watching us silly foreigners dominate T-Rexes and semi trucks.  Got a little video of Ryan, enjoy.

When it was all done, at about 1am, it was proposed to go do karaoke for two hours.  I sorta waved the white flag on this one, since I wouldn’t have been home before 3:30 with work the next day.  My bailing sort of derailed the whole idea, so I felt a little  bad, since the night was sort of focused around it being the teacher’s last day at Ryan’s school.  Overall, it was some nice and unexpected weekday fun, that is rarely a part of my midweek.
