保育所の卒業式 – Kindergarten Graduation

The other day I was asked to join the kindergarten graduation, after all, I was teaching there.  I arrived just in time, but was surprised to see all the big wigs from the middle school graduation there.  I can’t believe that this is worthy of their time.  Clearly, the school principals, PTA members and local postmaster have nothing better to do than suit up and spend some time watching kids do something of very slight significance.  Although at the end of the table, I too was able give the impression of being important.

The ceremony itself was only an hour, and was filled with the same basic elements as the grown up version.  There was singing, there was picture slideshows (which I made it into) and also the same mechanical reception of the diplomas.  One thing was that after the kids received their diploma, they would march over to where there mother was, say “Always, thanks you very much” and then make their way back up to the stage.  I thought that this was a nice gesture for sure.  I was acknowledged for my involvement with their education, and had to stand up, bow, and then say congratulations.  As we left, I was given a little basket of snacks and goodies.

Here is a video with some of what happened pasted together.  Since they are kids and speaking slowly, its no problem for me to understand, but you might have some difficulty…
