After the Ice Skating, Ryan and I decided to go back to my place to enjoy the hot springs and watch some Jersey Shore. Now, Ryan is from England and wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to such fantastic programming, so I am using it as an opportunity to share with him the ZENITH of American culture. On the way home, we decided to be adventurous and take a back road route that neither of us had seen before. Judging by the hairpins and switchbacks, it was going to be an interesting trip.
We start on the road, one which was all uphill, narrow, winding, and snow-covered. Everything was fine, but all factors seemed to be working against my safety. On top of what I just mentioned, the views of the countryside and mountains were absolutely stunning, and were drawing my gaze rather effectively.
Here is a video I took that helps give an idea, but wasn’t the worst of it by far. Nor did I capture the navigation of oncoming traffic.
On the way, we saw a sign for a waterfall, Rainbow Falls. Stopping was a fantastic idea, as the place was serene, beautiful, and all of 15 minutes from my front door. At the falls, we did a bit of exploring and picture taking. Getting down to the falls was pretty rough, since they only had a very steep and rocky path, not to mention the snow and ice abound. When we got there, we were amazed at the view. It wasn’t that they were enormous, but they were beautiful, and a rainbow was clearly visible as well.
Quick panorama of the area.
Falls to the back, rainbow in the front. Sadly not a double.
