地震だ! – Earthquake!

Just as a little bonus update, I just experienced my first earthquake.  Despite living in Tokyo for about 5 months, I had never experienced any of these quakes, at least none that I noticed.  It’s possible that they happened, but since I was sleeping on a water bed, maybe I just never noticed?

Anyway, I was just sitting at my computer and I noticed that my sliding doors were rattling against each other a little bit.  Then there was bit of a noise that was pretty loud, yet didn’t seem to come from any particular place.  Then everything gave a single, solid jolt, as if rearended by a car.  Nothing fell over, and nothing was broken, though it was a strange feeling to have everything, including the ground you walk on, move – generally you take ‘fixed’ objects to be fixed.  In the end it was only a 4.8 on the Richter Scale, and was one giant step towards being more Japanese…

Naturally, this was the only thing I was thinking about during and after.
